Just east of Lake View is one of the fastest growing areas on the north side ? North CenterAlso a large area with many distinct neighborhoods. Most of the real estate is single family homes, 2-4 flats and condos. The first neighborhood you come to in North center is Roscoe Village, named for the terrific commercial section on Roscoe Street. Eight blocks of boutique shops, restaurants, taverns and offices, surrounded by beautiful tree lined residential streets. Now a very popular neighborhood for young families, with playgrounds and parks, it was originally developed around 1890 to 1930 and the housing is frame Victorian and brick two flats. Also in this area the lots are often 30 wide, or more, as opposed the more standard Chicago lot of 25 width. Just north of Roscoe Village, but still in North Center, is St. Bens, where the lots and houses are a little bigger yet. At the north end of North Center is the Lincoln Square neighborhood, which is booming largely because of the terrific commercial area along Lincoln Avenue, which has the famous Old Town School of Folk Music and many fine shops and restaurants.
